Tune up to cool down!

You may have heard the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” But in order to keep something from breaking in the first place we need to maintain it, and our air conditioners (AC) need regular maintenance.
Not maintaining our AC could potentially cause high electric bills and repair costs. With proper AC maintenance there is no reason it shouldn’t give us many years of effective, efficient cooling.
These are a few simple AC tips that can ensure proper operation of our ACs for years to come:
• First, we should frequently check the filter in our furnace, and replace it if it is clogged with dust and debris. Improper airflow can cause the unit to work harder and cool less.
• Inspect the area around the unit to make sure trees and shrubs are cleared away so the AC can breathe.
• If there is a dryer vent close by, direct the vent away from your AC to stop lint from building up on the air conditioner coils. Dirty condenser and evaporator coils can cause the unit to work harder and possibly reduce the life span of the equipment.
• Consider hiring a contractor to clean the coils. They can also check the system for leaks, loose electrical connections, and can perform efficiency tests to make sure your AC continues to run smoothly.
ACs have come a long way in their design and efficiency. WH currently offers rebates for new air conditioners that are on one of our off-peak programs if they meet certain SEER ratings.
WH Appliance Repair offers a service plan for your AC. By following some of the above mentioned recommendations, you can make sure you stay cool this summer when the mercury starts rising.
