Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) is pleased to welcome Susan (Sue) Sorensen as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective March 11, 2024. Sorensen will lead WH’s financial strategy as the cooperative navigates remarkable growth and innovation in both membership and operations.
Sorensen will provide financial insights and counsel to the organization, direct financial planning and accounting activities, and serve as the Chief Risk Manager and Treasurer. She will also provide executive leadership for the IT department.
“Sue’s appointment as our CFO rounds out our WH leadership team to best position us for the energy transition ahead,” said Wright-Hennepin President and CEO Tim Sullivan. “Providing safe, affordable, and reliable power is fundamental to our success at Wright-Hennepin and Sue’s portfolio of experience and accomplishments will strengthen our ability to serve and thrive.”
Sorensen brings a proven track record in financial strategy and transformative growth from more than two decades in the electric cooperative industry. Most recently, Sorensen led the business development and continuous improvement functions for Otter Tail Power in Fergus Falls, MN, and spent an additional 15 years with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, one of WH’s power suppliers, most recently in the role of Vice President of Finance and Treasurer. Former roles in banking, credit, financial planning, analytics and reporting will fortify Sorensen’s contributions to WH.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Global Management Accountant (CGMA). Sue’s extensive financial and energy industry background make her a great fit to lead WH’s financial and technology departments.
