Hennepin County recently received an electric vehicle (EV) grant from Great River Energy (GRE), one of Wright-Hennepin’s (WH) wholesale power suppliers. The 2023 Mustang Mach E arrived in September and will be used by the county as a fleet vehicle.
“The county’s climate action goal is to achieve net zero emissions in the county’s fleet by 2050,” said Chris Sagsveen, Hennepin County Transportation Operations Director. “The county’s transition to electrify our fleet is an important way for the county to lead by example.”
Hennepin County has added several EVs to their fleet in the past months, as they work to cut greenhouse gases from transportation sources.
GRE and WH are both cooperatives, with Hennepin County being a member of WH, and WH being a member of GRE. As the vehicle wrap was designed, GRE offered to include WH’s logo. The goal was recognizing both cooperative’s commitments to education, a cornerstone of the cooperative business model.
WH has also recently acquired a Ford F-150 Lightning and a Tesla Model Y, the fourth and fifth EVs that WH has owned.
As EVs become more popular, WH encourages members to consider them and seeks to make education and resources available to members. WH also offers several Energy-Saving Programs and rebates for residential and commercial members.
